About Us

Afootincoldwater is a Outdoor & Active Gear shop run out of COLUMBUS, OH. The name comes from the part of a day outdoors that nobody photographs: wet boots, an empty car park before sunrise, the long walk back in the dark. That is the part we buy for.

What we stock

Everything we carry falls into one of four groups, and each group is kept deliberately small:

  • Outdoor & Camp
  • Training & Recovery
  • Trip Gear
  • Trailhead & Car

    • We would rather sell the one item that does a job properly than a shelf of near-identical versions of it.

How a product gets onto the site

    • It has one clear job. A strap that holds a load, a pad that stays put underfoot, a tin that keeps tablets dry. If we cannot say in a sentence what it is for, it does not go up.
    • The specification is real. We publish the dimensions, materials and contents the maker actually states, and we leave out what we cannot stand behind. Nothing here is described as a treatment for a condition.
    • It survives being used. Gear that goes out in bad weather, into a trunk and back again is judged on whether it comes home in one piece.

    What you can count on

    • Shipping. Free standard shipping on every order inside the United States, to all 50 states, with no minimum order and no expedited upsell. Orders are processed in 0-1 business days and take a further 2-3 business days in transit, with a tracking number emailed the moment the parcel is dispatched.
    • Condition. Every product arrives brand new in its original packaging. We do not offer gift wrapping.
    • If it arrives wrong. Returns cover manufacturing defects, transit damage and wrong items received, reported within 30 days of delivery. On approved returns we pay the return shipping and refund your original payment method within 3-7 business days of inspecting the item.
    • Security. Checkout runs over an encrypted connection and payments are handled by Shopify Payments. We never store your full card details.
