CONCEPT 376 – CPI FIRM
29 NATIONAL DATES FOR DAFFODIL GROUP
Toronto : Daffodil Records has launched one of the most intensive tour promotion packages ever assembled by an independent in Canada, intended to launch the label’s A Foot In Coldwater act nationally.
A well attended press-reception held on the floor of Maple Leaf Gardens on May 14, officially launched the project, titled “ElectriCanada ’75,” with invitations sent to major magazines such as Saturday Night, Maclean’s and Time, in addition to the regular music press.
Backing the tour which started in New Brunswick May 21, pre-release shipments of the “I Know What You Need “ single were forwarded to the east coast market to tie in with concert appearances there by the group.
At present Concept 376, in conjunction with CPI, have 29 dates confirmed on the tour with an additional eight awaiting confirmation in British Columbia. The tour is to be conducted in two stages, according to Frank Davies, president of Daffodil Records; the first part in English Canada operating between May 21 and June 27, with the second leg of the tour bringing the total number of appearances by the group to 38, in Quebec, late August.
Distributors for Daffodil, A&M Records will be supporting the tour by handling all “in-store” marketing campaigns on the group’s recent single, and “All Around Us” album.
In addition, the group will be making regular “meet the people “ appearances across the country in K-Mart stores, and massive radio advertising is set nationally to tie in with concert dates.
The three month tour is expected to gross an estimated $100,000, from which the group in conjunction with Daffodil and Love Productions have invested $35,000 in new sound equipment, plus heavy promotion across the country which is to be handled by label reps: Joe Owens in eastern and central Canada, along with Leo Mullen and Roger Cross in western Canada.
A Foot In Coldwater have been confirmed for an appearance at the Billboard Convention at the Century Plaza in Los Angeles, May 5, for one before returning to Canada to resume touring . The national dates will be opened by Columbia recording act, Dwayne Ford and Bearfoot.
